Well, hey there.

It seems like just yesterday (but actually it was two months ago) that I got the news Lady Gaga had officially approved my parody of “Born This Way.” Ever since that moment, things have been absolutely insane (in a good way).

For starters, we were able to immediately begin work on the “Perform This Way” music video (which is now done… you can see it HERE). This is the first music video I’ve directed since “White & Nerdy,” and it marks the very first time that I have performed in drag (as far as you know). I want to send out a huge thank you to the other cast members: Vlada Gorbaneva (the body), Marissa Heart (the contortionist), Holly Beavon (the Madonna), Josuè De La Vega & Phil Collins (the dancers) and particularly all the wonderful Twitter followers, band members, friends and relatives who showed up on the set to be paparazzi. The crew was awesome as well – I think this might have been my most fun shoot ever.

Also, in the last month, the band and I did 20 live shows in 20 cities – thanks to everybody who came out to see them. The official Alpocalypse Tour will start in July – we’ll be doing a week’s worth of shows leading up to two performances at Massey Hall in Toronto (where we’ll be recording the concert for a TV special airing later this year!) – and then we’ll do a couple more months’ worth of touring in the fall.

So anyway, the album is out TODAY. (Or, if you’re reading this after June 21, 2011… just do the math.) It’s available at myplaydirect, iTunes, Amazon, Amazon MP3 and if you can find one, even at actual record stores!! If you bought Internet Leaks and/or “Perform This Way” on iTunes, as promised, you will be able to use their “Complete My Album” function to get the full album without re-purchasing the tracks you already own. If you order through myplaydirect, you’ll have the option to get some super-fancy-deluxe album packages.

The physical album is available in two configurations – as a regular CD in a standard plastic jewel case with a 20-page color booklet, or (for just slightly more) as a deluxe version with both a CD and DVD in a digipak (also with the color 20-page booklet) as well a cool embossed cover with gold foil lettering. The DVD includes music videos for ten (TEN!!) of the songs on the new album.

The “Perform This Way” video is unfortunately not on the new album’s DVD (we just finished it a couple days ago, for crying out loud) but it’s available on iTunes right now. And I tweeted a while back that we were doing a video for every single song on the new album. I wasn’t lying! That means I’m also doing a video for “Polka Face” – the first time I’ve ever done an “official” video for one of my polka medleys. 10 separate directors are currently working on this… it will be mostly animated, but there’s a tiny bit of live action as well. It’ll be out in about a month.

I announced that Alpocalypse is being released on vinyl in July, and I’m very excited about that… I was thrilled to get my very first feature piece in the New York Times… what else? Oh yeah… my children’s book When I Grow Up just got released at the iTunes store as an app for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch! It’s a really cool, fun, interactive version of the book – and if you have kids (or even if you don’t) I think you’ll have a blast with it.

That’s all the updates I can think of right now. Thanks, everybody, for your continued support and for your wonderful reviews of the new album – I’m so glad you’re enjoying it!

Your pal,
Al

  1. Hey Al! Your my musical hero! I have been an avid fan since the 80′s and now that we are basking in the technological wonder that IS the 21st century what I really want to know is: When are we going to see a Tap Tap Revenge style game or even a RockBand-esque game devoted solely to your creative genius? Cuz brother, I’d give you my left kidney for that! (But not the right one. Sentimental reasons.)

    • Just an old friend (Goodman) saying I look forward to your show in Atlanta!

    • This is super cool. If you want to see what people are tweeting about Lady Gaga, go to Wishbone and it will show you the most common tweets about her, displayed in a visual graph. Take a look at http://labs.windward.net/search.html?search=lady%20gaga

    • hey, I am a big fan n have been for years!!! I’m in college n over heard some girls the other day saying when they get bored they text themselves… All of a sudden an old song popped in my head, but with slightly different lyrics. I wanted to send this idea to you. I knew if anyone could make this work you could.

  2. I have a nice idea for a parody for the song “relax don’t do it” by franky goes to hollywood.

I could not find weird al’s e-mail on his website so I will just use this comment in the hopes that he reads it ;) :)

Here are some of the parody lyrics for “relax don’t do it” (there are variations of it but ok)
(The idea is pretty much to make some fun of “airport scanners” so here goes):

    “Secretly scanning my erections !”

    “Pointing in all directions !”

“You’ll have to scan me !”

    “Scan me !”

    “Scan me !”

“With one of your laser beams !”

    toem toem toem..

    Oh yeah ! or OH-OH

    Oeeooohhhhh

    Variation:

“Scan me in all directions !”

“Secretly filming all my erections !”

You gotta scan me scan !

Scan me ! scan me !

Scan me with one of your laser beams !

    More variations:

“Relax don’t scan me if you don’t wanna be jealous”
(hiding a big dick in your pants lol)

“Relax don’t scan me if you don’t wanna be jealous !”
(hiding a big dick in your pants lol)

“Relax don’t scan me if you not a fan of me !”
(big smile on your face ! ;) =D)

    Other variations:

“Re-scan don’t do it ! If you don’t wanna go do it !”

“Re-scan don’t do it ! if you don’t wanna look at me !”

“Scanning me in all directions !”

“Secretly viewing all my erections !”

    “Don’t scan me ! Don’t scan me ! Don’t scan me ! if you don’t wanna be jeallloooouuuussss !” ;) =D

(^ could be the end note ;) )

    • hurumpf-
don’t bother Al!! he has enough to worry about than parody ideas posted by a bizilion fans. He’s got a whole creative cloud working in his mind all the time- he doesn’t need input. For example, turning Chris Ledoux’s ‘This Cowboy’s Hat’ into ‘This Cowboy’s Cat’.. I’m sure that’s an idea he’s considered already, you know…

  3. Sadly I can’t get itunes to complete my album. I purchased Internet Leaks -EP in August of 2009. Itunes is telling me I only have 180 days from the time of purchase to complete the album.

  4. I Love Alpocalypse! I especially love Skipper Dan. Al just keeps getting better and better. I love it. 10 out of 10.

  5. Waiting on pins and needles for you to announce a Kansas City concert…My son and I see you every year and look forward to this event!! Love you AL!!!

  6. Hey dude I got a new I idea for you you no that song called the shuffle and near the end it says EVERYDAY IM SHUFFLING how bout u make a song that says EVERYDAY IM SHUVLING or how ever you spell it hahha

  7. me im working on a song called weird als mom ie stacys mom

  8. Hey wierd Al I have a great idea for a new song for you. You need to take the song “Uncharted” by Sara Bareilles and rename it “I Sharted”. That would be hilarious and perfect for you. Of course, if you record it, I would expect a bone thrown my way for teh great idea!!! :-)

Hope to hear from you soon!

Hey Al, love your work…saw you before…how about coming to Gainesville, Florida ? It’s a college town,
you should do great there ! Also closeby is the Florida Theater in Jacksonville where Elvis had wiggled that little finger,
    and also St. Augustine…

  9. Hey, glad to see Gaga liked your song. A part of me really hopes she fires her agent for trying to decieve you like that.
A few weeks ago, I picked up a shiny new Nintendo 3DS, and watched the videos on the Nintendo Video application. The music video for OK Go’s All is Not Lost was breathtaking in 3D. That got me thinking you should get one of your music videos on there. All you would have to do is get some nerds to convert it to 3D, then convince Nintendo of America to put it in their video rotation.
Also, it’s been over a month since this post, but I still dont see a Polka Face video yet on any of your Youtube pages yet. Are you late, or did I miss something here?

    • We saw Al in concert last night and it was awesome! Great talent and good fun — we laughed hard and had a fantastic time! Thank you!

      • lucky. i looked up a concert in the dallas area and it turns out he did one and i missed it. (either he did or the ticket place was messed up.) sad. i caught the toronto concert on tv w/ my dad and one of the questions he asked was whether or not the fat suit was heavy or not. (luvvv….. canadian…… idiot…. :9)

  10. I know you probably get so many of these, but I just wanted to point out how creative you are in your humor.after watching most of your YouTube videos,it’s reallyade me come to recognize on how awesome you really are! Keep up the good work!

  11. Wow! I went to your concert in Grand Prairie last night…. what an AMAZING show!!!! You have always been my creativity hero… my mom always joked with me that I was born dancing to Weird Al… she has so many home movies from the mid-80s of my dancing around the living room in a diaper to Eat It or Yoda, etc… Now that I’ve finally been to one of your concerts, I will ALWAYS go when they are within a 400 mile radius of me. Such an amazing performer!!!! Thank you Weird Al for all that you do!!!!

  12. Are there any 2011 Alpocalyse Now tour shirts and stuff ? …I would so love to see some Perform this Way or Tattoo merchandise. Thanks.

  13. We love u Al! You rock. Are you going to do any more dates near Iowa/Illinois we would really love 2 see you:D

  14. I just saw Al in Atlanta, GA last night, and I must say how impressed I was. I always liked his music, but after seeing him in concert, I now think he is a genius and quite the showman. He did at least a dozen costume changes and pulled the show off seamlessly. I downloaded CNR from Amazon and have been listening to it on my tube amp all day.

Nice job, Al. You are an excellent musician.

    • about how long did the costume changes take? the fat suit and makeup look like they need a really long time.

  15. Hi, loved the show on comedy central the other night!! I have to thank you Weird Al, my son is hitting his teenage years and thinks I’m no longer ok to bond with, until i introduced him to “white and nerdy” (which, by the way, is still the best one EVER!) and we watched your show together the other night! We are bonding over our love for your music!! AND he has added a “white and nerdy” hoodie to his birthday list! Go figure…

  16. Dear Al,

I really like your new album. But I don’t like the packaging. I can’t see whether the CD is right-side-up inside the sleeve. What if it’s sideways, and all the bits fall out and I can’t listen to it anymore?

    Sincerely,
    brilliant

  17. Hello Al!
I don’t know how great or small my chances are, but…

Hi! I’m the female skipper you saw [and wanted to be a lovr 2] on the Orlando show, 10/5/2011.
It was a phenomenal performance. You are wonderful.

I tried asking around after the performance if there was any way to get my Walt Disney Nametag signed on the back, but I got the answer that you were likely already on the bus. [Which made me sad, but it's totally understandable.]

Now, hypothetically… If I were to somehow be able to send you a certain nametag in the mail…
Would anything magical happen? :D ?
    Sincerely Yours,
    Skipper Sydney

  18. Just saw your concert in Clearwater. It was amazing. I took my two sons for their 13th birthday. Easily the best concert I have ever been to. My face hurts from smiling for two solid hours. I have been a fan since the 80s and my boys just love you. You are a genius.
Oh, and Bob and Kak used to live next door to us. Tell them hi for us next time you see them.
    Diana and Dave.

  19. Al,knowing you and loving you as I grew up I’ve always knew you had a little bit of gaga power in you!! I listen to you everyday whether I’m on the bus to school, watching you on comedy central, on the car ride home, or even in my mind, I still listen to you everyday infact I’m listening to apocalypse right now! Take care of Nina and Suzanne ya here me?! Take care of you’re fans too! Love ya! Bye!

  20. I know I’m enjoying it!

  21. Took my girlfriend to the ALpocalypse concert at DPAC last night. Even she, snooty as she can be, had to admit it was the most entertaining show she’d seen in years. For myself, it’s the most entertaining show I’ve seen, period, and I’ve seen hundreds in every genre. Al’s comic genius and versatility aside (and that’s not easy to shove aside), just the musicianship of his bandmates was excellent. As a guitarist I was just floored by the chops James Kimo West. OMG! You gotta see this show and if it’s not coming to a town near you, get the Blu-Ray.

  22. Hi Al,

I really hope you see this because it’s been on my mind for a long time and I don’t know how to contact you directly. I have this great hysterical vision for a parady you could do on Bruno Mars “Grenade”. I’m sure you’ve seen the official music video. Did you ever think of it? The possibilities are endless. I can see you tediously pulling that heavy rope with a xylophone or something on the end. I know you’d come up with the funniest stuff for lyrics and the rest. Did you ever try to get the ok to do it or were you ever interested? I’ve run it by a lot of people who all want you to do it! It would definitely be a big hit! Congratulations on all you’ve done. Re: your parodies: “White & Nerdy” is still my favorite, but I like all of them really. I would love to hear something from you if you ever have the time.

    Love ya,

    Laurie

  24. o my gosh…. i know you get five million notes like this, but you are the most awesome parodist (only???… ah. i’ll think of it later.) i have ever heard. all your songs are amazing (hmm… that’s not the right word, unique? no i got it. un-azing), the weird al show was awesome (if censored :) – kitchen knife!), and i keep missing the concerts you do(?) in the dallas-ft worth area. dammit.

  25. WARNING: THIS WILL SOUND REALLY RANDOM!
have you ever just kind of froze, like ur just thinking at u start staring at one spot for like forever and you stop moving and then all thoughts just kind of turn either into music or a low buzzing (that really isn’t anything at all)? when that happens to me (and, being white and nerdy myself, happens a lot.) i revert to music mode, and all that’s going through my head is weird al music. (usuallly the song i heard just before… so that would make today C.I.A. and Fat day)

Hey Weird Al! Have you heard about the family from Massachusetts that called 911 because they were lost in a corn maze! It is national news check it out http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/230680/20111013/corn-maze-911-call.htm

I think a parody using Sean Kingstons “Fire Burning” would be perfect for this!

  26. I just found out I made the Dr. Demento Funny 50 of 2009 with my “Sex Positions” song. The lesson? It’s always good to know your internet footprint. I now have a lifetime of awkward job interviews ahead of me. :) Worth it!

Thanks for signing my accordion in KC.

  27. I have a Idea for a song to the tune of “video killed the radio star”
titled the” internet killed the retail store”

  28. This is completely unrelated to your blog but I just want to thank you for the amazing show you did in Boston. I went with my friend who had been carjacked/ stabbed nearly to death 6 weeks ago. This was his first time out of the house not counting doctors appts. and we had an incredible time. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

  29. My dad has been a major fan of Weird Al since Al first came on the scene. My dad was born in ’49 and always told me to pay attention to Al. That he’d make musical history with all of his parodies. I’ve loved Weird Al myself for many years and a lot of that lately has been partly out of loyalty to my father, who passed back in 2008. I feel that if he heard Weird Al’s new CD from this year, he’d love it just as much. He was DJ and played Al’s songs as much as anyone else’s at dances. I love Al and I love the connection between me and my father about Al’s music. Every new CD Al puts out will be in memory of my father, as far as I’m concerned. I will always purchase the new CDs thinking, “This is for you, Dad.” You are awesome, Weird Al!

  30. hello al, i ‘ve been a fan for many years and i finally got a chance to see you live , at the hard rock in hollywood, florida this oct.2011. you inspired me to write song paradies just for fun. i pick a song and finish it within a couple of hours. my father was a writer and poet and i guess it just comes natural for me. i would like to know where i can send some of my works for you or your staff to review. your advise would greatly be appreciated. thanks again for your time.great work.

  31. Al,

Have you considered parodying “Made in America” by Toby Keith? Seems tailor made for some re-interpretation.

  32. i know this is a weird place to put this, but i didnt know how else to get this message to al. i just want to wish you a happy birthday al! i hope it is great! i havent eaten meat all day just to celebrate your awesomeness! keep rocking!
-your number one fan (not like youve ever heard that before :) )

  33. oh ya p.s. your concert ROCKED!

  34. p.p.s im being you for halloween!

  35. Al,
You were very kind to autograph my 4 albums on 10/21/11 prior to your performance in Morristown NJ after I waited most of the afternoon.
I realized just prior to your arrival that with the glasses and backpack, I did look like the stalker who killed John Lennon.
I am sure this wasn’t lost on you or your tour manager, who is great, by the way.
Once I realized this, I put the backpack on and kept my hands seen at all times with simply the albums and marker.
You were also very generous with your time after the show.
This is simply a letter again of thanks.
It is clear that you, the band, and your crew are without a doubt, the hardest working, professional, courteous and gracious group out there.
Thank you again for a wonderful day.
We loved the show and did buy 4 tour shirts.
The Morristown NJ crowd loves and respects you all incredibly.
We appreciate you coming back again this year.
We hope you come back again.

  36. I wanted to give you an idea. Make a song called “Traffic” based on the crappy traffic in all the major cities and set it to the song “Money” by Pink Floyd.

  37. Wow that’s great mr.yankavic I have already bought one it’s a wonderful cd

  38. Al,

  39. you suck quit making fun of other bands

    • he doesnt make fun, he parodies in good humor. all of his parodies are approved by the artists, and most consider it an honor. please stop being disrespectful on his own site. if you dont like his music, please keep it to yourself, thank you.

  40. Hey Al! My name is Greg. Big Shug to my friends. It’s short for Sugar Bear. I was wondering if there was a way to directly email you. I have something that I want to share with only you. I don’t want anybody to steal it before you can use it. Please email me at UndrGrndSyndicateGC@yahoo.com.

  41. Time to start working on your next one…”Lips Like Jagger”

  42. Next time you are on your way to Wailea, I would love to play with some ideas with you for community events. Rabbi David (pretty fly) 280-4321

  43. Delighted seeing you play Boston a bit back.

Claire and I had an idea: Being amused by some of the wording of government documents — y’know, those forms everyone needs to fill out — we imagined Weird Al doing some rap parody of these forms, using the word structure in them. Then we went wild, thinking of candidate titles, like “Small Government” and things.

    Anyway, ’twas just a dream.

Y’know how *old* we are? We had to look up Lady Gaga to figure out what and who the parody was about …

  44. Need you to do a rendition of LMFAO “I’m Santa and I Know it” wiggle wiggle wiggle

  45. Now I think its time for Larry the Knight! Just a an idea…:)

  46. weird al vs. van halen where have all the good times gone vs where have all my dishes gone would love to hear that made

  47. I think for the song “Let the Bodies hit the Floor” you should do one called “Let the Barneys hit the Floor” and have all the famous Barneys is it (Dinosaur, Barney Rubble etc) My 4 year old thought of that one! :)

  48. http://www.ticketmaster.com/Rammstein-tickets/artist/781114

Out of 365 days of the year, why in the world do you pick the same day to tour at merrivile when im going to see a concert in chciago!? im hurt man..
